With the advent of underwater tourism, Dwarka, an ancient city buried beneath the ocean, is set to flourish once more and provide tourists with a singular view of its underwater treasures. By entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mazgaon Dockyard Limited (MDL) to work together on this ground-breaking tourism initiative, the Gujarati government formalized this attempt.
This effort, which attempts to blend adventure, spirituality, and cultural exploration, is set against the backdrop of Bet Dwarka, a small island off the coast of Dwarka, which is associated with the Hindu Lord Krishna, and the sunken lost city of Dwarka in the Arabian Sea.
Motivated by submersible research projects such as the examination of the Titanic shipwreck in the Atlantic Ocean, this project is India's first attempt at submersion-based tourism. As the birthplace of Lord Krishna, Dwarka is deeply symbolic and spiritually significant in Gujarati mythology. The Dwarkadhish Temple, often called Jagat Mandir, is a revered site for both religious and cultural purposes today. Through the introduction of components of marine biodiversity and archaeological discoveries, the undersea project has the potential to enhance tourism in the area.
The submarine, which weighs around 30 tonnes and can hold 30 passengers at a time, is expected to open its hatches to the public by Diwali 2024 and offer a captivating view of the ocean floor from 100 meters below it. There will be two rows of seating for a total of 22 guests, with a window view for each. The yacht, which will be manned by a skilled crew and two seasoned pilots, will boost local employment, investment, and tourism growth.
A formal statement regarding the specifics of Dwarka's underwater tourist project is anticipated at the January 10, 2024, Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. Underwater exploration and cultural discovery fans will find Dwarka to be an essential destination as a result of this effort, which aims to blend history, spirituality, and adventure.
