Bagdogra – Phuntsholing

Bagdogra – Phuntsholing [approx 5hrs/163km]: Upon arrival at Bagdogra airport; our special vehicle will pick you up & proceed to Phuntsholing. Arrival at Phuntsholing. If time Permits complete permit formalities.  

  • Evening you can explore the Local Bhutanese street and market.
  • The town at the Bhutanese-Indian-Border is divided. The upper third is called Phuentsholing and belongs to Bhutan, the lower two thirds are India's Jaigaon. The border is in the town centre. Some of the streets are divided with a wall, with a peaceful and clean Bhutanese side and the usual Indian mess on the other side. Normally Local Residents of Phuntsholing who stay near the border come for shopping rather for their day to day needs they come to Jaigaon market. So it adds on to the crowd of Jaigaon streets.

Phuntsholing – Thimphu

Phuntsholing – Thimphu [approx 5hrs/147km]: After breakfast complete the permit formalities if not done on earlier day. Later you can visit:

  • Amo Chuu the Crocodile Breeding Centre – [09:00am – 05:00pm]

After permit proceed to Thimpu. En-route visit:

  • Karbandi Gompa – [07:00am – 06:00pm]

Then proceed to Thimpu. Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan. Upon arrival check in to the hotel.

Thimphu

Thimphu: After breakfast complete the permit formalities for Punakha Valley & Haa valley. Later visit:

  • Buddha Point where you can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley. – [09:00am – 05:00pm]. 
  • BBS Tower
  • Tango Monastery. Tango Monastery is a Buddhist college and residence of Desi – [09:00am – 06:00pm].
  • Tenzin Rabgye, a young boy who is the reincarnation of the 16th-century monk who built Tango.
  • King's Memorial Chorten (Monument) – [09:00am – 05:00pm].
  • Chang Gangkha – one of the oldest monasteries in the valley. – [06:00am – 06:00pm].

Thimphu – Punakha Valley

Thimphu – Punakha Valley [approx 3hrs/85km]: After breakfast check out from the hotel & proceed to Punakha. Take in the splendid views of the Himalayas, listen to the sounds of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers that cut through the valley, or simply soak up the serene beauty of this gorgeous valley. Here are the 5 places in Punakha that will convince you that Bhutan is the last Shangri-La:

  • Punakha Dzong – At the junction of Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers, Punakha Dzong serves as the administrative and religious centre of the region. – [Monday to Friday – 09:00am – 05:00pm & Saturday – 11:00am – 01:00pm – 02:00pm – 04:00pm – Sunday Closed]
  • Chimi Lhakhang – known as temple of fertility. – [09:00am – 05:00pm]

  • Talo-Located at an altitude of 2,800 metres, this Himalayan village offers majestic views of the mountains.

Punakha – Haa Valley

Punakha – Haa Valley [approx 4hrs/105km]: After breakfast check out from the hotel & proceed to Haa Valley. Haa is a steep north-south valley with a narrow floor. An alternative name for the district is "Hidden-Land Rice Valley." Also visit:

  • White Temple and Indian Army Military Base.
  • Incursions from China.
  • Traditional Bhutanese Bath - Hot Stone Bath.

Haa – Paro via Chelela Pass

Haa – Paro via Chelela Pass [approx 3hrs/70km]: After breakfast check out from the hotel & drive to Paro.

 

  • Embark on a driving excursion to Chelela pass. At an elevation of 3,988 meters, it is considered to be one of the highest motorable passes in Bhutan. About an hour’s drive along a thickly-forested road, this pass is a botanical paradise. The pass provides stunning views of the sacred mountain Jumolhari and Jichu Drake. It is also marked by hundreds of prayer flags fluttering in the wind. It is one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m.

Arrival at Paro. Check in to the hotel. Later visit:

  • Taktshang Monastery view point (Tiger's Nest). The trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss. It will take total 7 hours to climb up and come back. But a beautiful place to visit. – [08:00am – 01:00pm – 02:00pm – 06:00pm].

Paro – Phuntsholing

Paro – Phuntsholing [approx 4hrs/143km]: After breakfast check out from the hotel & proceed to visit:

  • Paro Airport Point which is described as "the most difficult commercial airport in the world". The airport has only one runway. Airplanes on approach pass by 5,500m Himalayan mountain peaks, and the 1,980m runway length presents a double challenge, due to the extremely low density altitude at the site. As a result, only a handful of airline pilots are certified to operate commercial airplanes there.
  • Ta Dzong (National Museum)- Ta-Dzong, an ancient watchtower, which now houses the National Museum. It is located about five and a half kilometers away from the main town of Paro and 500 feet from the Rinpung Dzong located below the museum. Cameras are not allowed inside the museum, but you can photograph the ta dzong and surrounding grounds.  – [09:00am – 05:00pm]
  • Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) - The construction of the Rinpung Dzhong (Paro Dzong) began in 1644 on the order of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of modern-day Bhutan. Unlike most of the other dzongs in Bhutan, it survived the massive 1897 earthquake though it was damaged by fire in 1906. Paro Dzong’s full name is Rinpung Dzong, which means ‘the fortress of the heap of jewels’. – [March to Oct – 08:00am – 06:00pm & Nov to Dec – 08:00am – 04:30pm].

Later proceed to Phuntsholing. Arrival at Phuntsholing. Check in to the hotel. Get freshen up.

Phuntsholing – Bagdogra

Phuntsholing – Bagdogra [approx 5hrs/163km]: After breakfast check out from the hotel & proceed to Bagdogra airport to board the flight for hometown.
