Marble Mountains : A True Vietnam Gem

Marble Mountains are one of Vietnam’s most captivating natural and considered cultural landmarks. Comprising five marbles of limestone, each named after one of the five elements
Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth.
The mountains offer a unique blend of natural beauty and spiritual significance. Several Buddhist sanctuaries can also be found within the mountains, making this a popular tourist destination.
- History:
The Mountains have been a sacred site visit for hundreds of years, associated with both Buddhism and traditional Vietnamese beliefs and cultures. The name and the significance of the mountains relate to the belief that they represent the balance and harmony of nature.
Buddhist Influence: From the 15th century onwards, the mountains became a place for Buddhist worship. Monks began to establish temples and pagodas on the mountains, and caves within the mountains were used as places for meditation and prayer.
Linh Ung Pagoda is one of the oldest and most famous pagodas in the region. The caves were also used as shrines, where statues of Buddha and other deities were placed to worship.
Cave Shrines: The Marble Mountains contain several caves, many of which were used as Buddhist sanctuaries during the 19th century.
The Role during the Vietnam War:
During the Vietnam War (1955-1975), the Marble Mountains played a significant role in the military and strategic operations. The caves and tunnels within the mountains were used by both Viet Cong forces and American soldiers. The caves also provided shelter for secret hideouts during the war and also storage for weapons and other arm forces.

The best time to visit the Marble Mountains is during the dry season, which lasts from March to August, as the weather supports clear weather during this season.

It usually takes about 30 kilometers from Da Nang, and ways of transport are taxis, private cars, and buses.

By Train and Buses – Several Trains and Buses are also available to reach Da Nang from Major cities in Vietnam like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
